Sulemani, Akbari, Turkan, Kohistani, Urhani, Norai: PakTurk's 6 Design Lines Explained

by Pak Turk 01 Oct 2026 0 Comments

PakTurk furniture comes in six design lines: Sulemani, Akbari, Turkan, Kohistani, Urhani and Norai. The names are inspired by Turkish design traditions. Each line is defined by one craft. This guide explains what each craft actually means, what it looks like in a room, and how to choose between them.

One thing to know first: our standard wood across all six lines is imported pine, properly dried and hand-finished in our own workshop. Any of these designs can be built in other woods on request. Every item is priced individually, based on its size, wood and the work involved.

Sulemani: Hand-Carved

Sulemani is the carved line. Every motif is cut into the wood by hand, which gives the surface real depth. Light falls across hand carving differently than across a flat printed pattern. Because it is cut by hand, no two pieces carry exactly the same mark.

This line suits large surfaces where the carving can show: bed headboards, dining tables and consoles. If you like furniture with texture and shadow, start here.

Akbari: Hand-Painted

Akbari is the painted line. Colour and pattern are painted onto the wood by hand. This is surface art, not carving. The effect is completely different: where Sulemani works with light and shadow, Akbari works with colour.

This line suits pieces where colour leads the room: beds, wardrobes and side tables. Like any polished finish, hand-painted surfaces need normal care, and our re-polish service covers them.

Turkan: Brass Work

Turkan is the brass line. Brass details are set into the wood: strips, motifs and fittings that catch the light. The contrast is the point here. Warm brass against wood grain gives a piece presence without making it heavy.

This line suits beds, consoles and mirrors, pieces where one metallic accent lifts the whole room. If you want metal but find full metal furniture too cold, Turkan is the middle ground.

Kohistani: Metal Work

Kohistani is the metal line. Metal accents are worked into the wooden furniture for a bolder, stronger feel than brass. Where Turkan is warm and decorative, Kohistani is solid and grounded.

This line suits tables and beds with a stronger presence. Buyers who like furniture that looks built to last usually pick this line.

Urhani: Live-Edge Wood

Urhani is the live-edge line. The natural edge of the timber is kept as it grew, instead of being cut straight. No two pieces are alike, because no two edges grow the same way. Every Urhani piece is one of a kind by definition.

This line suits dining tables, benches and beds for buyers who want natural character in their furniture. If straight lines bore you, this is your line.

Norai: Cane Work

Norai is the cane line. Woven cane panels are set into wooden frames. The result is lighter and airier than solid wood throughout. Cane is a classic South Asian craft, and it gives furniture a relaxed feel that solid panels cannot.

This line suits chairs, bed headboards and wardrobes, pieces where you want the wood to breathe visually. In warm weather, cane furniture feels lighter in every sense.

How to Choose the Right Line

There is no best line. There is only the line that fits your taste:

You like texture and shadow: Sulemani.
You like colour and pattern: Akbari.
You want a warm metallic accent: Turkan.
You want a bolder metal feel: Kohistani.
You want natural, one-of-a-kind character: Urhani.
You want light and airy: Norai.

You can also mix lines in one room. A Sulemani bed with Norai chairs works well, because the crafts do not clash. If you are unsure, message us on WhatsApp with your room size and we will advise honestly.

FAQs

Are these Turkish designs?

The names are inspired by Turkish design traditions. The furniture itself is designed and built in our own workshops in Pakistan, in solid wood.

Which wood is used in these design lines?

Our standard across all six lines is imported pine, properly dried and hand-finished. Any design can be built in sheesham or dayar on request.

Does one design line cost more than another?

Not as a rule. Every item is priced individually based on its size, wood and the work involved. A simple Sulemani piece can cost less than a large Norai piece.

Can I mix design lines in one room?

Yes. The crafts do not clash. A common combination is a carved bed with cane chairs. If you want advice, send us your room details on WhatsApp.
